BACKGROUND
The Problem:
Many people in the US and other developed countries are living into their Eighties and Nineties, and many of them will need to (and want to) live independently. Right now, we do not see sufficient resources available (or publicized, at least) to assist with this massive demographic change.
We would like to see seniors able to make appealing and appropriate choices for their lifestyle, so they can lead high-quality lives. The project focused on understanding whether digital tools can influence how elders consume the right items to live independently and if so, how?
How Might We Question:
How might we help older adults age at home independently through a digital tool?
Solution:
Developed Food Connection, an online platform that connects approved home cooks with local elderly neighbors in order to satisfy their health and food preferences through homemade ethnic food dishes.
Benefits for Elders: Our goal is to make affordable, ready-to-eat meals that cater to individual dietary needs accessible to all aging adults. This way, they can spend less time cooking and more time enjoying their lives!
Benefits for Home Cooks: Our product allows home cooks to make meaningful connections with their local elderly community while doing something that they love and making a monetary profit.

Ethnography Study
In order to understand understanding whether digital tools can influence how elders consume the right items to live independently, we conducted an ethnography study to first:
Understand online purchasing behavior for need-based products and services.
Understand the tools and resources older adults use on a daily basis.
Understand what is needed for older adults to feel independent.
